Environmental Health


The Environmental Health division works closely with the State Department of Public Health for the protection of food, water, air and lead poisoning prevention. It is the regulatory enforcement function of the Health Department. Environmental health is responsible for inspection of all restaurants, schools and institutional kitchen facilities, day care facilities, public pools for safety and sanitation, and nuisance complaints.

Types of Permits and Licenses we issue:

Septic Permit
To install a new septic system, or to repair a system already installed, a septic permit application must be filled out, the fee paid, and the plan left for review and approval before the permit is issued. Field inspection of the work by Environmental Health staff is required before the final approval is given.

Private Wells
A well permit application must be filled out, the fee paid , and the plan left for review and approval before the permit is issued. Field inspection by Environmental Health staff of the work is required before teh final approval is given. The Health Department approves the water quality before the well is approved for drinking.

Food Service
Anyone opening a new food service establishment in Manchester must submit a plan and menu for review. A food service application must also be completed and the fee paid. (**Food License Packets can be printed from the Forms page.) Upon approval of the plan and the submittal of the application and payment, an inspection of the establishment will be conducted. A food service license will be issued if the inspection is satisfactory. Food service licenses are renewed annually.
